The next most common nationalities to have disappeared from each location are individuals from Afghanistan followed by Iranians.

Advocacy representatives emphasized that when assisting children who have escaped after being trafficked whilst missing, they observe how their mental and physical health is irreparably affected by the exploitation they endure during this time.

"For one child to disappear represents an complete breakdown of the state to safeguard the most vulnerable and exploited in their care. These numbers are in the multiple hundreds."

Necessary Steps to Tackle the Issue

Experts said greater efforts are required to locate the vanished minors. "They have not chosen to go missing. These youths should be playing football in the park and preparing for their GCSEs, not servicing trafficking gangs in situations we know include being restrained, physically and sexually assaulted, and penalized by being starved of food."

Legal Changes and Ongoing Concerns
