LA Battles Historic High Temperatures Just Days After Severe Winter Weather.

In the wake of torrential rains that led to inundation across parts of the city, the City of Angels is now seeing unusually high temperatures for late February.

Record-Shattering Temperatures

During the day Friday, the temperature reached ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown Los Angeles, according to weather officials. This exceeds the old record for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was established just last year.

"Unusually high temperatures" were highlighted on forecast maps for the region.

Forecasters issued a warning that Friday's heat posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their recommendations featured:

• Drinking plenty of fluids.
• Avoiding outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
• Ensuring you do not leave anyone unattended in a car.

A Sharp Weather Swing

This sharp rise in mercury comes on the heels of a intense storm system that struck the state last week. That event unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to the mountains, triggering flash flood warnings for many residents.

Unfortunately, the severe weather also caused a massive avalanche in the Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.

Forecast Ahead

Forecasters predict cooler conditions is expected. The heat were predicted to fall to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in central Los Angeles by overnight.

Other locales that experienced the 90-degree mark were Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Elsewhere, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were forecast to see the high 80s.

For the weekend, downtown Los Angeles can see readings in the eighties, with mid-70s temperatures expected for the week ahead.
