Recent details have emerged regarding the tragic passing of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were discovered at their Los Angeles home home on Sunday.
A source indicates quoting a family associate, a therapist scheduled for an session was the first to notice something was wrong after failing to get inside the residence. The practitioner then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives in the vicinity.
When she went into the home, Romy discovered her father's body. Accounts indicate she then left the home distraught, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also present. A companion who had gone with her promptly called 911. Following this, emergency responders found Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Authorities have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder, along with the charge related to a weapon, reportedly a knife. He is presently being held without bail.
The anonymous source also disputed several initial details. It was stated that while Romy Reiner told emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a guesthouse on the property, she did not identify him as a suspect at that time.
Additionally disputed widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "apprehensive" about Nick's behavior in the weeks leading up to the incident. Instead the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
This correction applies to reports of alleged "erratic" behavior by Nick at a event thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the tragedy. Although the source said they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they said that reports of a "blow-up" between the two were not correct.
According to law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had yet to determine as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports indicated the state of their bodies pointed to they had been deceased for a period of time.
Nick Reiner was apprehended at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the family home. He was scheduled to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, said his client had a medical issue and would not appear until Wednesday or later.
