Taliban Used Left-Behind UK Equipment to Track Down Afghans That Served Alongside Allied Forces, Investigation Learns

A whistleblower has disclosed an official investigation that British authorities left behind confidential devices enabling the militant group to locate Afghans that had served with allied troops.

Information Leak Endangers Numerous in Danger

The whistleblower, identified as Person A, explained that Afghans affected by the information breach were instructed to move homes and change their contact details to avoid detection from militant forces.

Lawmakers are currently examining the Conservative government's handling of a serious leak of confidential data concerning almost nineteen thousand Afghans who had requested to move to the UK to escape the Taliban.

The Information Breach Happened

A spreadsheet with private information, such as names, contact details and sometimes family information, was inadvertently disclosed by a worker employed at UK special forces headquarters in early 2022.

The leak became known in late 2023, when the names of nine people who had requested to relocate to Britain appeared on social media.
