The American champion Confident of Being 'perfectly positioned' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following claiming a top-three finish for the fourth time in her last five World Cup events.

The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Returning to the French Alps resort for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," Vonn said. "After that, I performed strongly. I'm happy with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Injury

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 because of ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are timely.

She boasts an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the 2026 Games.

"In Cortina, I will be in a good place," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a career spanning two decades.

She currently holds a 69-point lead at the top of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup circuit features a total of nine races scheduled before the season finals in Norway on 21 March 2026.
