The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
