The United Kingdom Set to Utilize Immobilized Russian Assets to Support Ukraine's Military Campaign

The British government is ready to advance with employing the full worth of frozen Russia's funds to bolster the Ukrainian war effort, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a joint statement, the heads of state of the UK, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this coordinated action would increase strain on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and urge Moscow to come to the table.

They added that the decision would be carried out in strong partnership with the US.

United Kingdom sanctions have immobilized over £25bn of Russian resources since Russia initiated its full-scale invasion against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. However, up to this point, money provided to the Ukrainian government using Russia's holdings had only been sourced from profits and interest accrued on them.

Sir Keir assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and Germany were aligned in their aim to advance efforts toward using the total worth of the frozen Russia's state funds to halt hostilities.

He added that further sanctions over the next period would apply more pressure on Moscow.

This statement follows European officials gathered in Copenhagen previously to consider utilizing immobilized Russian assets for a €140bn loan to Ukraine.

Last month, President Donald Trump called on Group of Seven partners to take or utilize seized Russia's funds, as reported by media sources.

The worth of frozen Russia's assets in the Europe is calculated to be approximately €211bn.
